9 Types of Berries to Grow in Your Backyard

I want to share with you the nine kinds of berries that you can grow in your backyard. Each of these berries has a unique and distinct flavor that you must try. So let me walk you through all of them and also share with you how they taste like.

  1. Red Raspberry - The red raspberry is a classic berry that you must have in your backyard. There are different varieties, so make sure to choose the one that grows well in your zone. The Polka Red variety produces fruit in the end of June, but here in California, we get fruit from the same variety in the end of April. These berries are sweet and have a tartness to them that makes them taste delicious.

  2. Yellow Raspberry - Most of the yellow raspberries are well suited to grow in zone 3 to 8. They are sweeter than the red raspberries and have a fruit-like taste. When they come off the plant without effort, they are ready to eat and have a yellowish or golden color.

  3. Boysenberry - The boysenberry is a cross between a raspberry, blackberry, dewberry, and a loganberry. They are the sweetest berry I have ever tasted, and they are full of sugar. These berries are also very easy to pick.

  4. Blackberry - Blackberries are super easy to grow, and the varieties we have are thornless blackberries. They are absolutely huge and taste sweet.

  5. Loganberry - Loganberries look like raspberries but have a unique taste. They have a dusty, dark maroon color, and the darker they are, the sweeter they taste. They taste sweet and have a kick at the end.

  6. Blueberry - I am growing five different kinds of blueberries, and they all taste a little bit different. They are all southern high bush varieties because of my region. These Blueberries burst with the juice in your mouth, and they are absolutely sweet.

  7. Strawberry - Strawberries are a classic berry that you must have in your backyard. They are easy to grow, and they taste delicious. They are the perfect addition to any salad, smoothie, or dessert.

  8. Tayberry - Tayberries look like Loganberries however their flavor is so unique that the only way to describe is to compare the tayberries with rose petals. This is because they are very floral and have the most unique flavor of all berries.

  9. Goji Berry - Goji berries are a superfood. They are small and orange in color and make a perfect plant for your front yard. When in season you can pick some goji berries and enjoy them as these are very expensive in stores.
