DIY Vertical Garden: Organize and Grow Your Indoor Plants

Welcome back to my blog! Today, I'll guide you through the process of creating your very own vertical garden or rack for organizing and growing your indoor plants. If you're like me and have plants scattered all over the place, this vertical garden will come in handy. Let's dive right into the steps and get started on this exciting project.

Step 1: Gather the Materials To make the vertical garden shelves, you'll need the following materials:

  • One-by-twos from Home Depot (three-quarters of an inch by one and a half inch)

  • Four 36-inch pieces

  • Four 28.5-inch pieces

  • Six 4.5-inch pieces

Step 2: Cut and Assemble the Shelves Begin by cutting the marked pieces according to the measurements mentioned. Join the four 28.5-inch pieces to create an L shape, ensuring that the plain side of the L shape will be the front of the rack. Pre-drill pilot holes and insert screws to secure the L shape.

Step 3: Create Multiple Shelves Using twelve 28.5-inch pieces, create six L shapes. These L shapes will form three shelves.

Step 4: Join Shelves and Pillars Join the L-shaped logs to the four 36-inch pieces. The L-shaped logs will act as the shelves, while the 36-inch pieces will form the pillars. Leave a space of 15 and 3/4 of an inch in the middle to allow sunlight to reach the plants.

Step 5: Insert Cross Beams Insert the six 4.5-inch pieces between the L-shaped logs to create cross beams that connect the entire structure. This step ensures stability and support.

Step 6: Paint the Structure Paint the entire structure with your preferred color. White is a popular choice as it brightens up the space and gives it a clean look.

Step 7: Arrange and Enjoy Your vertical garden shelves are now ready! Place your pots, trays, or containers on the shelves. The side rails created by the L-shaped logs prevent the items from sliding out. This compact vertical garden is perfect for growing indoor plants, starting seedlings, growing microgreens, and more.

Congratulations on creating your very own vertical garden! With this DIY project, you've not only organized your indoor plants but also maximized space and created a beautiful display. Enjoy the benefits of having a thriving garden right next to your window.
