Growing Tips That Will Change Your Life

Are you tired of trying to grow seedlings that never seem to make it past the first few weeks? Do you want to increase your germination rate and grow healthy plants that will thrive in your garden? Look no further! In this blog, I'll share my top five growing tips that will change your life and help you grow beautiful and healthy plants.

Tip #1: The Growing Medium

To start your seeds, use organic potting soil mix, compost, and coconut water. Mix 70% potting mix, 20% compost, and 10% coconut flour. The seeds contain enough nutrients to grow up to one inch or two sets of leaves. Avoid adding excess fertilizers as they can burn plants and stop seeds from growing. Use 32 cell trays to start your seeds and place them in a catchment tray to catch any excess water. Use a big container to keep the potting mix, making it easier to distribute it evenly in all the cells.

Tip #2: When to Start Your Seedlings

Start your seedlings depending on your last frost date and the kind of vegetable plants you are growing. Some plants take longer to grow than others. Tomatoes and peppers take much longer, so start them in January. Move on to starting flowers, okra, eggplants, and cucumbers. Squashes and pumpkins take less time, so plant them last. Grow seedlings in batches every two weeks.

Tip #3: Heat

Seedlings grow best between 70 degrees Fahrenheit to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Use heat mats to retain heat under the trays and provide enough heat for the seeds to start growing.

Tip #4: Sunlight

Grow your seedlings on a movable shelf next to a window. Move the entire shelf out in the sun on sunny days so your seedlings can enjoy natural sunlight. No need to spend money on artificial lighting at night.

Tip #5: Watering

Keep your seedlings moist at all times, but do not waterlog them. The consistency of the growing mix should be equal to a regular sponge, not too wet and not too dry. Add a layer of coconut coir on top to retain moisture. Use lukewarm water to water your seedlings, which keeps them warm and helps to increase the germination rate.

By following these five tips, you can increase your germination rate by 95%. Keep these seedlings alive until the last frost date and plant them in your garden in the spring. Try these tips, and I am sure you'll see a significant difference in your plant growth!
