Flame Torch Farming: A Safe and Efficient Way to Get Rid of Weeds Organically
As an organic farmer, one of the biggest challenges is weed control. Using chemicals like Roundup is not an option, and handpicking weeds can be time-consuming and labor-intensive. However, there is a safe and efficient way to get rid of weeds organically: flame torch farming.
In this video, I share my experience with flame torch farming and how I built a cart with two propane tanks and two flame torches to get rid of weeds in my farm. Flame torches work by breaking the cell wall of the plants, similar to how frost kills plants. You only need to torch the weeds for a short time, and they are gone.
I got this idea from other organic farmers who use their tractors with propane tanks and flame torches to torch all the weeds in their farms. It's the same principle, but on a smaller scale.
Using a cart with propane tanks and flame torches is easy and efficient. I clamp down on the throttle of the flame torches with wood clamps to keep them going and use L brackets to hold the torches securely in place. It's easy to start up, and you just pull the cart over the weeds, and they are gone.
However, there are some safety precautions you need to follow, such as only using it in winter and spring right after the rains, using it on gravel, and making sure you don't start any fire. You also need to avoid using it where you have plastic or weed block, which can catch on fire.
In conclusion, flame torch farming is a safe and efficient way to get rid of weeds organically. It's an excellent alternative to using chemicals like Roundup, and it saves time and labor. With a little effort, you can build a cart like mine and start flame torch farming in your own farm or garden.
