Choosing only the Best Pineapples at Grocery Stores
Do you ever wonder how you can pick a ripe, sweet, and juicy pineapple from a grocery store every single time? Pineapples originated from South America and are a tropical fruit that takes anywhere from 12 to 24 months to grow. It is possible to grow a pineapple from a top of another pineapple.
So, I went to the grocery store and out of lots of pineapples, I was looking for that perfect pineapple. Some pineapples were greener in color, some had a yellowish tint to them, some had more give to them, and some were very firm. And out of all these pineapples, I happened to pick the pineapple on the very far right side.
I used these three tips to pick that pineapple:
Tip number one - the color: The color tells you if the pineapple is ripe or not. The yellowish color on the pineapple signifies that the pineapple is ripe. If the color of the pineapple is way too green, the pineapple is not ripe. Pineapples don't continue to get ripe after they're picked so they have to be picked right on the plant.
Tip number two - the skin of the pineapple should have a little give: The skin should be a little bit soft. That signifies that the pineapple is filled with juices and it is ripe. If the pineapple is too firm, that means the pineapple is not yet ripe and it's not going to be too sweet.
Tip number three - smell the pineapple: If the pineapple smells sweet and fruity, the pineapple is ripe.
So, these are the three tips that will surely help you pick that perfect pineapple. Some people also mention a couple of other tips such as picking the leaves on the top of the pineapple to ensure if it's ripe or not or checking the weight of the pineapple. If the pineapple feels heavier then it's sweeter, however, I wouldn't rely too much on these two tips. The first three tips are a sure way to find that perfect pineapple.
Now, let's cut up the pineapple and see how it is. First, I'm cutting the top half-inch of the pineapple and then the bottom half-inch of the pineapple. Then, I'm cutting the pineapple in half and then in quarters. Pineapples have a thick core, in order to remove this core, cut into the core on one side and then on the other side as well. This removes the core. Do this for all four quarters.
Now, further cut the pineapple into one-eighth sections. Further, simply slice the pineapple into slices up to the skin and then scrape at the bottom with the knife to separate the pieces from the skin. And there you go, you get perfect pieces of pineapple. It's absolutely delicious, it's so juicy!
Now, this was a great pick. A cut pineapple is everyone's favorite, and a ripened fresh cut pineapple is way sweeter than a canned pineapple.
I really hope you enjoyed this information and I hope you can pick a ripe pineapple every single time!
